Li-Fi Technology Upgrade Version Of Wi-Fi Super Fast Internet Pilot

Li-Fi stands for Light Fidelity, and it is a technology for transmitting data by using light. In this only LED lamps can be used for the transmission of visible light. Li-Fi was established by Harald Haas during a 2011 TED Global talk in Edinburgh. In official terms, It is a visible light communication system that is capable of transmitting data at high speeds ultraviolet and infrared radiation. Li-Fi as opposed to Radio waves.

Li-Fi technology is similar to Wi-Fi. The difference between the Wi-Fi and Li-Fi is Wi-Fi uses radio frequency to transmit data and Li-Fi Uses light to transmit data for several advantages like higher bandwidth, electromagnetic interference and higher transmission speeds. The technology is actively being developed by several organizations across the globe.

Architecture of Li-Fi system

Li-Fi can be the future of data communication appears to be a fast and cheap optical

Version of Wi-Fi:

For a Visible Light Communication (VLC), Li-Fi uses visible light of Electromagnetic spectrum between 400 THz and 800 THz.

Li-Fi uses fast pulses of light to transmit information in wireless medium.

The Li-Fi system contains the following components:

  1. a) A high brightness white LED which acts as transmission source. To generate a new data stream, data can be encoded in the light by varying the gleaming rate of the LED. In this method, the LEDs work as a source by modifying the light with the data signal. Communication rate more than 100 Mbps can be achieved by using high speed LEDs with the help of multiplexing techniques. The Li-Fi transmitter system comprises of following:
  • Bulb
  • RF Power Amplifier Circuit (PA)
  • Printed Circuit Board (PCB)
  • Enclosure

History

Lecturer Harald has coined the term Li-Fi at his 2011 TED Global Talk where he introduced the idea of wireless data from every light. He is a Professor of Mobile Communications at the University of Edinburgh and the co-founder of pure Li-Fi.

VLC technology was exhibited in 2012 using Li-Fi. On August 2013, data rates of over 1.6 Gbit/s are established over a single color LED do not need line-of-sight conditions. In October 2013, it was stated Chinese makers were working on Li-Fi development kits.

In April 2014, the Russian company declared that the expansion of a Li-Fi wireless local network called Beam Caster. Gigabytes per second (GBps) but they predict boosting speeds up to 5 GB/s in the near future. In 2014 a new record was established by Sisoft that was able to transfer data at speeds of up to 10 GB/s across a light spectrum emitted by LED lamps.

In July 2015, IEEE has operated the APD in Geiger-mode as a single photon avalanche diode (SPAD) to increase the efficiency of energy-usage and makes the receiver more sensitive.

Li-Fi Features:

The following are the some of the features of Li-Fi

Bandwidth: 10,000 more than RF spectrum

Data density: Li-Fi can achieve about 1000 times more than the data density of Wi-Fi.

High speed: Very high data rates can be achieved in Li-Fi.

Low cost: Requires fewer components than radio technology.

Energy: the transmission of data requires less amount of power.

Safe: Life on earth has evolved through exposure to visible light.

Security: Li-Fi provides the security while using internet.

Control: Data may be directed from one device to another and the user can see where the data is going away.

Li–Fi operates using visible light technology. Because offices and homes have already use LED light bulbs,

Li-Fi uses visible light, Ultraviolet and Infrared. Li-Fi has almost no limitations on capacity. The visible light spectrum of Li-Fi is 10,000 times larger than the entire radio frequency spectrum. The first commercially available Li-Fi system is

Standards:

Li-Fi is a wireless technology that uses light-emitting diodes (LEDs) for data transmission.

Li-Fi uses LED light bulbs similar to those now in use in many offices. In Li-Fi data is transmitted by the LED bulbs and received by photoreceptors.

Benefits of LiFi:

Higher speeds than Wi-Fi.

10000 times the frequency spectrum of radio.

Prevents piggybacking.

Eliminates neighbouring network interference.

Unimpeded by radio interference.
